I hit the library a couple days ago to play with their MakerBot a bit. Mostly to see exactly what its good for. Im really thinking I might get one. Ive got a couple more things to find out [which I could probably be doing now, instead of typing this], like how well I could convert .lwo files in LightWave to .stl files for the machine, and whether Id technically need to; I also kinda wonder whether the plastic objects can be successfully polished to hide the little lenticular lines, and whether the objects are tough but resilient enough to sorta snap together into larger things. At the least, Im thinking it might be fun to expand upon the hundredish Safari/Carnegie 1:40 models Ive got, ranging from D.antirrhopus to B.altithorax, which Ive historically kinda sculpied. And then Hunter Crazychick has this neat idea about printing up skulls and things as jewellery. So, thats about where I am on this: thinking about throwing a few thousand bucks into a way to make my own LegoBricks, while shes thinking about ways to make the money back in a couple weeks by merching the results.
