I honestly do not believe that SADTU issued below statement, u c a Trade Union has 2 protect the interests of workers who joined it; they must address classroom challenges facing educators in daily basis, instead they address the Public Protector *it is very wrong and unaccpetable*. Sadtu failed 2 address imbalances of da passed, we still have public schools wthout books, even proper classroom structure whr learners shud b taught in, 1 teachers classroom is over-crawded wth learners, there r no chairs and tables in most public schools, thr r no clean water and toilet facilities in many public schools; all these relate 2 Basic Condition of Employment. Why is Sadtu nt addressing such issues, i believe thts wht Sadtu is there for; they failed 2 service their members nw they turn da errow 2 da Public Protector, Why?. Yes their core business is politics, bcoz they benefit 100% they position themselves in Parliaments (they r MPs and MPLs) @ da expense of their membership. Labour issues r ur priority Sadtu, pls HANDS OFF PUBLIC PROTECTOR Thuli Madonsela is doing her work and she is nt confused; so pls.... The SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) has launched an onslaught on Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, accusing her of portraying herself as the “fourth branch of government”. The union has also advised Madonsela to form a political party, just like former AgangSA leader Dr Mamphele Ramphele, if she is interested in politics. Sadtu was responding to Madonsela’s leaked letter two weeks ago in which she said President Jacob Zuma’s response to her Nkandla report was not adequate. In a strongly worded statement, the union said it wanted to save the office of the Public Protector from Madonsela. “The actions of Advocate Thuli Madonsela are clear (sic) systematic signs planned to create anarchy and divisions within our society and the ANC in particular. We have continued to observe leakages coming from her office including calling press conferences to engage with government when guidelines are clear as to where she needs to account to”. Madonsela had said the letter was leaked by a senior ANC politician, but refused to reveal the identity thereof. Sadtu questioned why Madonsela refused to reveal the name. “It is against this background that we view her conduct as that of somebody trying very hard to portray herself as the fourth branch amongst the spheres of government”. “As a union, having fought many other injustices in our past and including the present, we have a moral obligation to protect the office of the Public Protector from this incumbent. We can safely advise her that if she has interest in politics she must, just like Dr Ramphele Mamphela resign and launch her own party”, said the union. Sadtu accused Madonsela of governing by proxy. “The people of our country voted the ANC against her wishes and she must accept their verdict. We will not allow her and her associates in business or the opposition parties to govern by proxy. She must stop using the office to attack the ANC with the intention of weakening it because that will not happen.” Calls, initiated by the EFF for Zuma to pay back part of the R246 million spent in upgrading his private home in Nkandla, were premature, said Sadtu. Madonsela’s spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi could not be reached for comment.
