I hope that the outrage about DMCI photobombing the Rizal Monument - TopicsExpress

I hope that the outrage about DMCI photobombing the Rizal Monument is not just about a damaged view. After all, history is not just about the aesthetics of monuments, but more about the meaning and the way we take to heart the lessons of the past. Only when we know the real meaning of our past, and its relevance, that we would have officials and construction companies that would have historical sensitivity. But then again, I argue that when we have a robust sense of history, that our kasaysayan (history) indeed becomes a collection of many salaysay (narratives) that have saysay (meaning), that it doesnt matter anymore what surrounds our monuments. They could be in greenery, or in the middle of a polluted metropolis; casted against beauty, or against urban decay. It would no longer be relevant. For what now matters is the meaning.
