I hope that this post wont be that controversial. I just got home. Mom asked how my travel was, and I answered that the traffics heavy due to Iglesia ni Cristos Evangelical Mission along Commonwealth Avenue. What she told next really irked me. My mom is an active member of Apostolates in Parokya ng Kristong Hari (PKH), a Catholic church just beside that gigantic INC chapel. She was in PKH together with her fellow apostolates, busy reciting their rosary, which is a very usual church activity to us Catholics. Mom told that moments later, some members of the INC, whom we know as manggagawa, entered the PKHs vicinity and demanded them to stop (reciting the rosary) because it can be heard outside. There was a bit of confrontation but in the end, the parish priest decided to close the church office. (I could feel Moms disappointment when she said that the parish priest closed the office.) Integrity-wise, I have no questions whatsoever as regards my Moms account. I believe in her story because I know it is really true, and shes not the kind of person who hurl negative comments about another religion/sect just so to lift the Catholic religion up. I am greatly, greatly disappointed with the rude behavior shown by those group of INC members. This incident only aggravated my already ill feeling towards the early morning traffic caused by their so-called momentous event. Tonight, they appeared to me as bullies preying on helpless people. I used to entertain invitations for what they call pamamahayag, but I will fearlessly say, that most of its contents only talk about how wrong the other religions are and how genuine their sect is. It felt like being in a marketing session, only that it uses the bible as a tool. I am not an active member of the Catholic church; I actually consider myself as an agnostic. I dont believe in religions because I know that they are only created by people, and to confidently argue about something were not really sure about its existence is kind of irrational to me. My point: I am not doing this to side with the Catholic church. My outrage was simply rooted from what I believe is an outright trampling of ones right to freely exercise their faith. World peace? Not if we have these kind of twisted-thinking group of people.
