I hope the day treated you well… Two quick thoughts on it - TopicsExpress

I hope the day treated you well… Two quick thoughts on it from my end. One, today’s vote on H.R. 30 “The Save American Workers Act” was important not just because it represented a change to the Affordable Care Act, but because it represents what I believe will be the beginning of a wave of bills destined to make their way through the Senate and to the President’s desk. In this case, current law defines part-time workers working just 30 hours a week as full time employees eligible for health care benefits. This designation created incentives for employers to cap workers at 29 hours, and this has hurt a lot of working Americans. This bill would raise the definition of full time work to 40 hours, and in that regard is a step in the right direction. Two, I ran across two articles that I thought interesting in light of the vote on the Speaker. The first was in the Washington Post and was an interesting analysis of Daniel Webster who wound up being the top vote getter in the contest with the Speaker. The second was in the Daily Caller and entitled, “How to Beat Boehner.” I have been as frustrated as many who I have spoken with on the Boehner leadership question, but I do think it’s vital we shoot to win or at least wound with a vote like that one. Accordingly both articles contained pieces of what I struggled with on Tuesday’s vote, and so I thought they were worth seeing: washingtonpost/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/01/07/conservatives-just-tried-to-replace-john-boehner-but-not-with-a-tea-partier/ dailycaller/2015/01/05/how-to-beat-boehner/
