I hope this isnt a hot button issue but it could be.... All day long at work I hear comments like thats a light skinned thing, thats a dark skinned thing, oh white people do that. No one says a word. But I find these statements offensive. THEY ARE RACIST. And yes racism can be any person hating on any other person because of the color of their skin or their race- its not just white people oppressing others. When you say something derogatory about white people in general, you are being just as racist as a white person who says derogatory things about black people. Those statements are ignorant and it makes me think how if you have a relative who is mentally challenged - the phrase retarded is offensive when used in a derogatory manner. The same thing with the words gay or queer. If you want someone to respect you, start by not only respecting them but respecting yourself.
