I hope to see everyone this evening! A strong school system will help bring residents to the city and keep Southfield thriving. The Southfield Schools Millage Campaign will be kicking off today with a parade and rally on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. The parade will commence at Birney K-8 at 5p.m. and proceed down Evergreen to Southfield-Lathrup High School where it will culminate in a brief rally. Southfield Public Schools is seeking renewal of the current 17.6345 operating mills for a period of six years. Since the last millage was passed in 2008, the district has kept its promise to voters to “live within its means” and has not raised taxes. Instead, it has made budget cuts and decreased its operating expenses by more than $80 million. Passage of this millage will not increase voters’ taxes. The millage represents 50% of the district’s operating expenses. Passage of the Millage will allow the district to continue to offer award winning curriculum and quality programming for students.
