I just came back from my garage to speak to the new garage manager on an estimate for a yearly check for my car. We have a new garage manager, because Shahar Melamed, whom I taught English as a kid, watched grow up to build a warm, loving family on Nirim, and turn into the only mechanic I would trust with my car, was killed minutes before the cease-fire came into effect, four months ago (minus a day). He was killed by a mortar while trying to help the men fixing the electricity that had been knocked out by a rocket earlier that day. Not a day goes by when we dont think of him, and Zeevik - another man who used to do everything around here. I cant even count the number of times Ive heard people say that they needed to go to Shahar or Zeevik... oh...theyre gone.... It still hasnt sunk in - and we here on the border are constantly aware that a new round can start any time now. In fact, we are all expecting it. Just thought youd want to know.
