I just collected term papers in one of my MCOM72 classes. Thus begins a period when to some students I am The Devil Incarnate, for the following reasons: (1) They tried to turn in their papers late, after I spent 11 weeks saying I would not accept late papers, period. (2) I refused to give them last-minute extensions without genuine extenuating circumstances. (3) I dont return the papers within 48 hours. (There are 70 of them at 8-10 pages apiece, which takes a while to grade.) (4) Once Ive returned them, Im the devil because they didnt follow the guidelines in the term paper handout, read the sample paper or attend all the classes where I discussed what needed to be done. So their bad grade is because Im evil. I love my job, but I love it less on certain days...
