I just dont know why Mallam Nasir el-Rufai keeps getting himself roped in these embarrassingly petty promotions of unverified conspiracy theories. I thought that finding of the Australian who knows us better than we do ourselves is one of those sparks that come and go, but this very one is becoming too long and loud for comfort. Yes, Boko Haram was badly managed under Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, but was Sheriff in charge of our security agencies? Isnt Sheriff too now a target of the terrorist cult? No evil of that scale can ever be without the complicity of the NSA, the DSS, the NA, the NIA, the NPF and even the NSCDC! We shouldnt be discussing Boko Haram as though the Mohammed Yusufs never existed, as though we dont have friends who have witnessed and know the insurgents, as though an insidious ideology isnt capable of wreaking such havocs, as though indoctrination is an impossible disuse of reasons, as though the boycott of western education and values has not been a harmless cultural trend in the north long before it becomes a militant resistance! There are more respectable ways to employ our intellects in understanding this insurgency, and peddling unverified conspiracy theories isnt one of them. But the question is, would Sheriff have been so ridiculed by these partisan and voyeuristic disbelievers in reasons if he had not left APC? I doubt!
