I just finished my first playthrough of Entwined for the PS3/4/Vita. Oh lord, does this game reaffirm my love of indie games. The only bit of story that is given is that a bird and a fish are in love, and you are given that trough a simple line of text at the outset; Always together, Forever apart. A heartbreaking phrase to be certain, but the general gameplay mechanic is that both must work together to clear a gauntlet of colored gates in order to join as one. This is not a simple task, as you must use both analog sticks simultaneously to guide both Fish, and Bird in varying patterns of orange, blue, and golden gates all whilst collecting blue, and orange orbs to fill each characters guages to entwine them. The art direction is very reminicent of Rez, while the music is along the lines of ThatGameComapnys Flower. The Gameplay itself feels like the special stages from Sonic 2 combined with Audiosurf. The entire package invoked feelings in me similar to when I first played Journey; a feeling I havent felt SINCE playing Journey. The later levels had me sighing with frustration, though, as the gate patterns got more, and more random. So if you dont have great reaction time, this might prove quite the challenge. I dont want to give away the ending, because even by telling you the basic premise Ive told you too much, but rest assured its well worth the $10. If you own any Playstation system made in the last 5 years, and have $10 to burn, go give this game a shot. A single playthrough only last about 1 1/2 hours, but if you bought Journey, you get the same runtime for $5 less (Not to put down Journey, as theyre both amazing games).
