I just finished watching Silver Linings Playbook. At first, I thought, this is a pretty good, if not harsh, look at certain aspects of mental illness. But, about 3/4 of the way into the movie, I started thinking, wow, this is really just a bunch of messed up people doing and saying a bunch of messed up things to each other. However, by the end, I could really see the love in the movie. Many of us, at one time or another, have done something messed up to someone else. And weve all endured some messed up stuff. But, one mistake I think we all have in common, especially many of us who are divorced, is that we made love TOO small. We thought too little of it, severely underestimated it. Didnt realize how flexible it is. How it can stretch and grow and bend and twist to fit and cover any and all things, even the hurt and the ugliness weve endured. Otherwise, thats like saying that ugliness was bigger than love. And I refuse to believe that. In our hurt, we just couldnt see how strong love is, stronger than we could understand because we werent so strong ourselves at the time. I dont wish messed up relationships on any of us. And, this wasnt a Christian film, so it obviously didnt show how a threestrand cord with God in a relationship would make such hardships easier to endure. But, we really need to have faith that, with God ALL things are possible. REALLY believe love is patient, kind, and endures all things. If relationships were all roses and rainbows, they wouldnt need something as insanely strong and durable as love to hold them together.
