I just got a phone call from the Department of Education in Baton Rouge from Mrs. Butler concerning my request for an impartial hearing. For the pass several years I have been trying to get help for my grandson. Ms. Judy Oneal is the 504 coordinator for Tensas Parish and I have requested also from her an impartial hearing at the local level for the pass two weeks.my request has been delay. Early this year I have requested to go before the school board to address something that has happen with him within the school system. The superintendent has not allow me to go before the board to address my concerns. The school has a policy(public complaints) file number KNCf: BCBI, IFA, GAE that the School board put in place that state the Tensas Parish School Board welcome constructive criticism My complaints is the safety of my grandson and the proper equipment working and in place. Last year before getting out for the holiday break he had report that he was being bully to the Mrs. Dix. Round about December 18 or19, 2014 he had a fight on the bus with the student that had been bulling him. I meet with the Principal Mrs. Dix. She told me they was going to pull the camera the next morning. I was told that this new bus did not have a camera on the bus. I went to talk to Mrs. Carol Johnson who is the superintendent for the Tensas Parish School and the school bus supervisor. Since I came home from Texas it been one thing after another. I meet with the SBLC board to do a IAP for him on February 13,2014 I was told that I needed to update his diagnosis on ADHD and some other health issues before they could sent his IAP to the State so I did not sign the IAP on that day. On Friday February 14 valentine day I contacted the school system to give me a copy of the policy requiring me to update his information. The school did not respond to my request. I contacted Family Helping Family and they fax me the policy. I than contacted Ms. Oneal office and told her what the policy stated. As a grandparent my role in decision making is just important as the team but the day of the SBLC meeting the team held me in a restrictive position to the things I felt he needed to be getting on his IAP. When I would request certain things, I was told that the state would not allow him have this on his State test so we could not check it off to be use in the classroom or the teacher was doing it with all of the student in the class. I question them about the IAP being a plan for Drevious than I could not understand if it was listed on the IAP why it could not be check off on his IAP. To the parent who have a child with a behavior disorder or learning disorder whos child has a IAP or IEP understand what I am talking about. It is so hard trying to get some people to understand your child disability. I have ran all over the state of Louisiana, Talk to Senator Thompson at the state capital and his office. I have went to workshop at La Tech University ,to Volunteers of America Highland center and spoke with Glady Waltes and has ask her to come and do a workshop in St. Joseph I have contacted the state for legal representation for a parents. Attorney Raymond Cannon was listed with the State of Louisiana for 6th Judicial system, the Legal aide in Monroe was recommended by Attorney Cannon to no prevail. When they give parents know your right book and you question the school system about the information on an attorney I was told that they did not have a listed for the parents. So where is all the money going to from the State and Federal to assist parents with legal issues with the school system. My biggest concerning is what has been ongoing at the school level. I had to get the town of St. Joseph Chief Jones to go to the Tensas Elementary to resolve a problem concerning his Teacher who had taking his valentine gift home with her and ate it over the weekend. Its my understanding that he ask her about who gift it was and she could not identify who the blue gift bag belong to but his grandmother brought it to the Classroom along with some candy for the student in his classroom. I also had to use the Chief to get a copy of the back of the IAP that I sign only that I receive a copy of parents rights. he representative from Family helping Family had to go with me to the Tensas Parish School Board to get the information online to look at his Grades I talk about it on facebook. we went on February 13,2013. Parents or grandparent sure not have to be treated like this.On last week he was harass about his weight and how much he eat. Drevious is suffering with a eating disorder and he is over weighted. A student last week was teasing him when he was in line on his way to lunch. He became upset about it and he was taking into the office to Mrs. Dix. when he was allow to go and eat his lunch another made some remarks to him, under pressure he made a remark to the teacher, he understand why student bring a gun to school for a teacher. when I was contacted about the remark he made I ask the Lord to lead me I call Family helping Family to seek counseling for my grandson. I was giving some contact information. Later that day a student wave his lower private part in front of his face. Drevious push the student out of his face and told him that was gay. The student hit him with his book bag in his face. Drevious was sent to the office to see Mrs. Dix. I was not contacted by the teacher or Mrs. Dix. No note was sent home or any phone call about what had happen. He has suffer so much this school year.He had miss PE about six weeks first part of this school year for lost of privileges, lost of snack, the teacher paddle him twice he has been in school about six months the only brave buck award he had receive was ten when I came to parent and teacher conference night and I believe he said he got one from Mrs. Walker. His teacher at the IAP said that he has a big heart and give his bucks away. Its my understanding that he have had The teacher did a test and determine that he did not have any behavior problems. The school has medical record and school records concerning his disability. I am again asking for your prays concerning this matter. I love the song break every chain. Chains is only broking when we come together and make changes. There is power in the name of Jesus. I pray that Drevious suffering will not be in vain. This has nothing to do with the color of the skin its about what is right and what is wrong. Children is calling for help everyday and there is some signs. Please do not over look this. Its my child today but it maybe your tomorrow. I have spoke to my school board representative and made him aware of what has happen. I was told that board members had not receive my request to be place on the agenda .Let me tell you the outcome with the valentine gift. Mrs. Dix gave the Chief Jones to give to me the money for the candy and a copy of the back of the IAP on February 18,2014. Drevious was giving three days without snack privileges for remarks made to teacher. I thank the Lord for mercy. Look I know some of you are saying why did she put this on facebook. I want you to know what is going on with my grandson and I do not what it to be said she did not seek help. To many children are taking their lives because of bulling. I am ask you to stand with me concerning bulling. Tensas Parish must understand this is a problem that is taking the nations. I am calling on all Minister, Pastors, Layman, Deacons to touch and agree about this spirit that is attacking our children. This pass week my mind was so heavy with things on mind that I invited the public to come out on the wrong day to the black history program. I walk to the school on that day to fine no program please forgive me.
