I just got back from the first annual Heart of Texas Comedy Festival. It was a really great night. Congratulations to the winners: 3rd place Tim Edwards, 2nd Place Ross Day, and the 1st HOT Comedy Festival Winner Rebecca Arthur!!! It was a great night and all of the comics did really well. The people of Waco came out in large numbers to support the comics and the comics did not disappoint. Everyone did such a great job and it was a successful event. Thanks to Michael McBrine for putting all of this together. You worked your ass off to put this together and I am proud to have been a part of it. Thanks to all of the other comics who I probably would have never met if it were not for this event, especially those that took the time to have a conversation with me. I learned a lot. As far as my set I wasnt competing but I felt I had a good night. I did a set that was mostly about Jesus. While it wasnt necessarily obscene or too offensive I understand that some people are a little sensitive about that guy. So some of my jokes didnt go over so well with a large portion of the audience but I focused on the people enjoying it and kept going. It was interesting to see that some people would not laugh at one joke but then laugh at a pretty similar joke later. I know I have a lot of work to do to really know how to work an audience. I would have done a different set if I was actually competing but I always struggle with that balance between perfecting old stuff and coming up with new stuff. I feel bad if I do older stuff too long but if you dont you cant perfect it the way it should be. Oh well. It was a good night overall. Protip #2821: Dont do more than one or two Jesus jokes a set when doing comedy in Waco Texas. P.S. Since I wasnt competing I helped collect the ballots (the audience voted on the winners) and helped count the ballots. Someone had penciled in my name at the bottom and then put an X next to my name. Someone disliked me so much that they wrote my name in so they could vote against me. I LOVE COMEDY!!!!!
