I just had a horrible experience with a customer. She had me do - TopicsExpress

I just had a horrible experience with a customer. She had me do an estimate on cabinets back about 2 months ago. I never heard from her again (even after a few call backs that went to the answering machine), until a couple of weeks ago. She told me that they were ready to do the job, but she wanted to add the trim downstairs including the doors. So I estimated it and added it to the total. Now, the first week and a half went fine and we finished the cabinets. The next two days working on the basement trim didnt go so well. She was aiming for low price, so I told her that Sherwin Williams Solo was a good paint to do the trim with and she signed off on the contract. After applying the 2 coats, she came down and looked at it and told me that she could still see the wood through the paint and asked me if I watered it down or if I was using old paint. I told her no on both and offered to show the receipts. It didnt matter. She started ranting about how my trim didnt look like her husbands that he did on the main floor. Nicely, I tried to tell her that we had put the paint on per the manufacturers instructions and that I was a little confused because I didnt see any wood through the trim (except for a few spots that required some touch up). Anyway, she had a fit and said that I needed to make it look exactly like her husbands work upstairs. I tried again, nicely, to explain that her husband had put the paint on too thick and that if we did that it would sag and run like her husbands had done. I told her that I didnt like to leave work like that because it was my reputation at stake. She got upset and basically I got fired from the job. Any suggestions on how to handle this scenario? I tried to talk with her, to no avail. She would just talk over me and wouldnt listen. She didnt tell me up front that it needed to look like her husbands work or I could have avoided all of this. My contract is pretty cut and dry on how the paint would be applied as well. I really dont think she was trying to pull a fast one on me, but Im really confused as to what the problem actually is. The upstairs and the basement dont even connect where the trim is involved. Im at a loss here.
