I just had the best pizza. Flavor, ingredients, cheese/crust ratio: above average. Service and empathy for my cause: above and BEYOND. I called these guys on a personal bet. I decided that if they said yes to a free pizza I would run the extra 9 miles to Riverside. They did, and I did - skipping my intended nap time and running a straight 29 miles (with a 1hr break for coffee in Lake Elsinore). Besides their generosity, Joe, the owner came up to me and introduced himself while I was playing bum outside (curled up in a corner and eating like an abused dog - glancing all around like someone might steal my food). We talked for a while and he offered to give me a ride to a park 4 miles away so I could camp safely, or one of the hotels (nearby but too far off my route for a walking detour). I explained that Im bound to accept no rides for any reason until I finish this run. So Joe helped me pinpoint a likely spot to throw down my bag and sleep for a while. Im in the most sketchy campsite Ive ever been in but Im grateful to be here. Joes parting words were a reminder that there are people nearby who will look out for me and to call if I need any help tonight. Thank you, Joe and the staff of Marcellos.
