I just had the privilege of meeting USAF Colonel Gail Halvorsen. He was the original Candy Bomber during the Berlin Airlift in 1948. He came up with the idea of dropping chocolate bars attached to small parachutes to German children that had been cut off from such luxuries by Russias occupation of the city after the WWII. All he asked of the kids was that they share what they had just been given. He would wiggle the wings of his aircraft so the children below would know it was him flying above. What a wonderful man.
