I just had to share this today! I remember when we first moved to Seattle in the early 70s. We were a part of a church that was charismatic and pentecostal in nature. It was fun at first but then they forced their beliefs on our family and my mother went along with it. We had to wear dresses all the time and no pants whatsoever. Couldnt wear makeup, listen to secular music, be in extra activities in school etc. I wasnt even allowed to be in a community choir. I was taking drum and guitar lessons in school but even eventually gave that up due to home life. I cannot say how much this really messed us up as teens and our adolescent stage in life. In addition to that, we were b-racial and because of that were subject to alot of bullying and teasing. As I look back on those times, I see how ridiculous religion was and is. How dare a church or a religion tell a person what they can wear? Whether or not they can wear earrings?? Give me a frigin break!! Who or what they can do with their life and who they can love??? Thank God for freedom and for clearing my head and heart of all that toxic thinking....
