I just have to share Dr.BCos thoughts on this. For the nth time, I, too, am not against going after the tax evaders. But there should be some logic and sense on how the medical profession pay taxes. We are, after all, not like some commodity that you pick off the shelves. Dont get me wrong. We all need to contribute to the coffers of the government and while there may be spoilers among the ranks, who doesnt? It behooves me that were being singled out and maligning a profession that gives more than it receives is not only unfair, but unprofessional. I remember when I was training officer for Ospital ng Maynila during my younger days when I would have to wait for six months to get my monthly pay as a consultant. The pitiful salary of P3000.00 a month was not enough for gas or caring for the least, the lost and the last. But teaching my residents, encouraging them to learn the art and science of pediatrics, and yes, taking care of the poorest of the poor in the City of Manila was enough to make my day. After 5 years, I called it quits because the new mayor of the city called doctors thieves! Dalawa na kami mananampal ng paycheck namin sa mukha ng BIR commissioner pag nagkataon. I dont know if she realizes that we are not all Vicky Belos. She may be the ex-sister-in-law of the richest doctor in this country, but were not all made from the same business fiber. And many of us engage in better ethical practice than her ex-sister-in-law. Ang tunay na pabigat ay yung mga nagtratrabaho sa gobierno na nagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan. Ang masakit dito, nagbabayad ako ng tamang buwis at ninanakaw lang ninyo. Kilabutan naman kayo sa ginagawa ninyo. May araw din kayo...ang tawag diyan...karma!
