I just joined the group today. Thank you Amy. I was raised in Shelby NC and my family came to the beach every year since I was walking. All of my memories were based around the Pavilion. Relatives and friends worked on the corner at Sloppy Joes Bingo. I played in a band in high school and we auditioned one Sunday upstairs in the attic. The same day actually that the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. I grew up and moved away but always knew I wanted to retire here in Myrtle Beach which I did 2 years ago. How sick I was to find the Pavilion gone. It was like someone had just ripped the very heart out of Myrtle Beach. I later met Jack Thompson and purchased his book and we talked about old times. I told him that if they had just been able to somehow contact all the people who grew up with Pavilion memories and had us donate $10 each they could have probably raised 6 or 7 million dollars and kept it from being destroyed. And, to think they had the audacity to replace it with a VOLLEYBALL NET??????? I still get mad everytime I go down there and see that big hole in the sky where all those memories for thousands of former kids resided. What an utter shame. I hope this page can help some with the pain. Thank You.....
