I just noticed that facebook has my present marital status listed as pending. That strikes me funny for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Reta and I have our 35th wedding anniversary coming up next week (and for the purpose of accurate official record keeping, those 35 years do not include the 7 years her clothes were hanging with mine in the closet while she worked at convincing herself the odds for our relationship working out might possibly be favorable.) Considering my track record with two priors, she did take a mighty leap of faith in the face of some friends and co-workers telling her it will never last. Apparently my reputation, whether it is deserved or not, has followed me right up to the offices of whoever is in charge of monitoring facebook entries. So let it be known far and wide that, regardless of the fact our song is Waylon Jennings Good Hearted Woman, this marriage is most definitely not pending. Ours is a partnership solidly forged and as indestructible as any that can be enjoyed by two people who are as deeply in love today as they were 42 years ago. There exists no better evidence proving the strength of our marriage than the fact that not once in those 42 years has Reta made an attempt to kill me.
