I just read a article forwarded to me by Mihai Sebastian A indie band took spotify for $20,000 now think about this. the whole time, spotify was paying them .0007 cents. a play. with that being said.. Ive personally got checks in the mail for $32.00 from other services for my music same principal. They made a silent album, and told there fans to put it on repeat all night.. thats funny.. For me to make $32.00 thats a few thousand plays. wheres all the other money go? hmmm? right to spotify.. very sad. artist that dont have the money to pay me, I get it. While I do a forensic audio job, and a law firm can pay me $100s an hour? The music business for indie artist is the only business in the world, that artist have been brain washed to not make a living, its those that choose to not go with the grain, that actually make a living. I know my boy Big Won I told about how he is doing all these shows, and getting no return, while a club owner is making $20 at the door, you show up at the show, and pay for beer right? but the music isnt worth anything?. THATS WHY THEY HAVE OPENING ACTS FREE PUBLICITY IS WHAT YOUVE BEEN BRAIN WASHED TO BELIEVE.. BUT in BIG WONS case, he brought 3/4 the crowd or more? THOSE MUSICIANS NEED TO MAKE MONEY!!!!Musicians dont let the world beat you up. most musicians I know, are either the nicest people in the world, or just a real prick over time of being b.sd I have a prick side, to people that totally disrespect what I or other musicians do for a living.. no in between. If youve never been in the music industry on any level, its hard for you to understand the struggle.. I stress anyone out there, to watch this movie linked below, Man does it show the real truth behind a lot of bands/artist. Artist have been treated like this for years.. I am willing to except it, and keep pushing forward, I thank God he has given me the ability to generate income in this business, and want to help every last artist do the same.. I want to post this, because I do care for every artist that pays me for my time, I genuinely want them to be sucessful, in there careers, but man it starts with the fans, All music starts with the fans. Everytime you support a album, by buying it, your helping that artist build a name, and have a future, to make better music, its the truth. If people understood that Ive done a lot of jobs in life, and to this day, Music is still the most work, and the least pay, when I first started, yeah I wasnt as good as I am now, but man, I bought into that attitude, until I about lost my house, Just because your nice, doesnt mean you need to be timid.. Learn how to be genuinely firm is what I learned. as of recent the pay has been fair, but man, its took 13 years to make that happen, May God bless every artist Ive worked with.. And the future be greater then the past.. So I end with this, If your guilty of asking a Indie band for a free cd, but purchasing a CD that had gained popularity.. I ask any fan of music Why? I am guilty of this myself. Why do we buy a popular album, but not want to give a dime, to the guy that needs the money at the time hint.. the movie below? So next time you run into a indie artist busting there arse.. Please think about it when the guy/girl asks you to support them.. Let these artist make a living, and if the music is just horrible, be thankful you bought that album, you just gave them a few more dollars to get the album done professionally and continue practicing .. Im a music mastering engineer, I understand what a guy like me can do for the appearance of a album,, but it still starts with great music.. I posted this not to be long winded, but to show any future artist I work with, or any future fan of mine, is I get the struggle, and want to work with all types of budgets this year, to help see dreams come to pass.. This has really come to my mind, as of recent, starting to work on my own music again.. The only advice I can give, If you believe this is your God given calling, then he will work it out.. But for those that dont have that faith in God, I advise you very strongly to do so.. Makes the road a lot more joyful. (Because Jesus became poor for our sakes, He was bruised, beated, punished, and crucified, for our sakes, Now every time I endure a challenge, I remember, this isnt anywhere near, the world totally rejecting him, and punishing him, its ok.. Hes been there first, and will be there last.. :) God bless
