I just received another call (thank Gd!) from my son, who is serving in Gaza. On behalf of his unit, he has asked me to reach out to my friends and family, for some very specific, practical, and life-saving support. The army issues all combat soldiers standard protective vests. But these soldiers, quite understandably, want better-than-standard protection. They have raised 16,000 shekels (around $4,600) to purchase vests that equipped with “pockets” for fitted ceramic body armor that allows for optimum mobility in the field. Each vest costs one thousand shekels. To protect every one of the 26 soldiers in the unit, these boys need to raise another 10,000 shekels, or a total of $2,900 USD. In these difficult times, everyone knows someone in need, and many of us have soldiers of our own. But during Operation Defensive Edge, we’re all amazed by how Israeli society has pulled together, doing everything possible to support the young people who are on the front lines. Can you help? Donations of any amount would be very much appreciated. As a mother, I would also appreciate you sharing this information with anyone else who might be inspired to help. Donations can be made by DIRECT BANK TRANSFER, either in shekels or foreign currency, to the following account. Account name: “Tzevet Kedar” (Kedar Squadron) Account number: 105-597406 Name of Bank: Beinleumi (First International Bank of Israel) Number of Bank: 031 Name of bank branch: Afek Number of bank branch 036 Thank you, and tizku l’mitzvot (may you have the merit of sharing in an important mitzvah!) - Sandy
