I just relocated my family from Lake Havasu City to a smaller community in the desert of Northwestern Arizona. As far as writing goes, that means another three weeks or so without any progress on the next book--but Im back on track now. It took two weeks to get Internet service here, much of which delay was created by my providers requirement that we show them proof if identity BEFORE they scheduled the installation (why we couldnt show the installer is beyond me). Thank you, Frontier Communications!! The new place is much quieter. Further, once my daughter goes off to college, I will--for the first time--have an actual room with an actual, close-able door in which to do my writing. In the old house, I had a corner of the Family Room and right now I have a corner of the big Everything Room in the middle of the house (such that anyone in the kitchen or going from room to room is behind my back--Max inherited his problems with stuff going on behind his back from me). There was a huge rainstorm here last night, by the way. We lost power for four hours or so and several of the roads were closed. You see, here in Mohave County, we dont build bridges over the washes, we just run the road straight through them and put up road closed signs when it rains and water runs over the road. In fact, old Route 66 goes through this area and is one of the major highways. It is crossed by a large wash that fills with water in every significant rainstorm (Sacramento Wash). We dont have a bridge or a culvert. We DO, however, have a webcam!! You can go online and see if the road is passable! Heres the link. weather.co.mohave.az.us/Sacramento_TopockCam/sac_topock.htm
