I just rescued a Red Bellied or Downy Woodpecker who had flew into our patio door and just sat outside the door looking dazed and with its right wing out-stretched for like 20 minutes, thought it may have been injured so i put on rubber gloves and got my neighbors extra bird cage out and gently took my hand from breast to slide down its wing to neutral position picked it up and slowly carried it to and set it in the cage to monitor it for a few minutes, it seemed ok so i opened the one side of cage and waited for it to try to fly out and to make sure it was alright. When i went up to it and held it i spoke softly asking if it was ok and it didnt seem scared or afraid and to see it fly again was the greatest feeling, so beautiful and glad i could help.
