I just saw Captain America Winter Soldier twice this weekend, once last night and once again just now. It has everything I personally like in a movie. Conspiracy theories literally ripped from current headlines, engaging characters, some of whom are hard to tell which side they are on, and to top it off, its got decent martial arts fight scenes. (The acrobatic fight between Captain America and Georges Batroc The Leaper (played by Georges St. Pierre!) reminds me of Hong Kong action choreography (much in the same way as Watchmen did.) And Robert Redford is delightfully slimy while Chris Evans is great as always as the idealistic hero we all know from the comic books. (To top it all off, that really is Chris Evans doing a kip up during one of the fight scenes.) Scarlett Johansson is gorgeous, deadly, and troubled (which is how the Black Widow ought to be) and I like this movie interpretation of Sam Wilson aka The Falcon. And check out a surprise appearance at the end, after the first set of credits, from both Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, courtesy of Baron von Strucker. (There is even a quick mention of Doctor Strange.) Sebastian Stan is both scary and sympathetic as The Winter Soldier, and I dont think its really much of a surprise for anyone who has read the comics to know that, of course, he really is...(okay I wont give it away to non comics fans.) The only thing is, having grown up with 1960s comic books, Im not used to seeing nebishy SHIELD agent Jasper Sitwell as one of the bad guys. (Well, things change with the times, including interpretation of characters, so its all good.) I saw this twice and Im likely going to see it again...and again. ;-)
