I just saw a video of the 17 year old kid lying In the street dead at the hands of one thats suppose to protect and serve. It ripped at my heart I have grandson and numerous relatives in that age range I cant wrap my mind around the the thought of this happening to one of mine. I dont know any details of what occurred so therefore Im not at liberty to make an assessment. Having lived in north county since 1971 Ive witnessed a decline in what was once a nice area to reside in. Ive also witnessed and been a victim of these cops that judge you as guilty until you prove your innocence. Ive raised my kids to respect policemen and cooperate whenever dealing with them. The death of this young man is unnecessary this attitude of shoot first and ask questions later is becoming more and more pervasive. Actions like these are going to cause eventually an equal and escalated reaction. There may sadly come a time when violence against police becomes prevalent. These cops ride around in their heavily armed vehicle with little or no interaction with the people in their communities unless there is a crime or something negative happening. I see how their view can be skewed in such a negative way therein lies the problem how can we teach our you people to trust the police if their only interaction with them is in an official capacity. Seriously when is the last time youve seen a policeman initiate a hello shake someones hand introduce themselves. Me not since I was a very young child. Who knows if maybe one had done this with this dead young man before maybe just maybe he would not have felt the need to try and escape his presence. It applies in reverse order also if they (police) werent instantly treated as the enemy maybe they could lighten up and become a friendlier presence in our communities. It needs to start somewhere before its too late.
