I just spent a great day with my daughter. We went to see the Guardians of the Galaxy and then went to the county fair. I wanted to offer review for Guardians of the Galaxy... I remember when I saw the first trailer for the movie. I thought the music was campy and the characters were ridiculous. I was convinced that this would be Marvles first dud within the new cinematic universe. Even though I wasnt very interested, I knew I was going to have suffer through it since it ties in with The Avengers storyline. My interest was piqued as reviews started coming in. I was amazed at the consensus that this is a great movie. I started to get excited. Many reviewers said this was was better than The Avengers. Some offered that it was better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hmmmm.... was I wrong? Oh how I hoped! Let me set the record straight. Guardians Of The Galaxy is not equal to, nor better than either of the aforementioned movies. That being said. Guardians Of The Galaxy is a great movie and needs no comparison. It is a movie that stands on its own legs, under its own merit and makes a stand declaring its own greatness. The film is a beautiful film to watch. The special effects are always top notch and the casting was especially great. I initially questioned some of the casting choices. Chris Pratt? John C Reilly? I Stand corected. The only person that was cast that is still questionable to me was Vin Diesel. I cant imagine why you would pay a star like him to play in such a small role. I can only imagine that future installments will expand upon his character named Groot. I really cant think of any negative thing to say about this picture. In fact, I Dont WANT to say anything bad about it. It is a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fits in nicely. The biggest achievement in this movie was finding a delicate balance between compassion and humor without being cheesy. This movie tugs at your heart one moment while making you laugh just moments later. The story telling is brisk without being flippant. They mapped out Star Lords history in a very concise and heartfelt manner. In fact, they didnt feel the need to go with an over the top origin story. I believe they did this because none of these characters really need an origin story at this point. Each character brings their own charm and personality to the table. The story is simple... 5 misfits thrust together and forced to work together to regain possesion of the third Infinity Stone. (Marvel fans will remember the Aether and Tesserract from previous movies.) If you like the Marvel Cinematic Universe do not miss this gem! These 5 certainly are the Guardians Of The Galaxy.
