I just thought I would share my hypnobirthing story. On 17th - TopicsExpress

I just thought I would share my hypnobirthing story. On 17th January 6 am i woke up to mild surges. My hubby went to work at 6 am and I couldnt go back to sleep. I went downstairs and passed the morning sitting on my gym ball and playing facebook games while listening to my chill out music. I didnt think much of what was going on as they felt very similar to practice surges. I decided to have a bath as I really didnt want to get my hopes up with my ever looming induction date coming up. After wistfully falling asleep in the bath for an hour - oops! My surges had somewhat subsided so i popped myself back into bed to warm up (it was bloody cold) The rest of the day was pretty uneventful; surges were sporadic at best and as evening came I went shopping. I had to stop a few times because they took me by surprise but were still only 20 - 30 minutes apart. My hubby lovingly cooked me dinner and fed me cheesecake (I live the life lol). It was only when my mum called me and i realised that i was having to get off the sofa and lean down on all fours to breathe through the surges. My mum is excited on the other end of phone saying this is it but i wont believe her! Within minutes of going upstairs to the loo and back again my surges had gone from 20 minutes to 3 minutes apart in two waves. My hubby suggested we called the maternity unit and let them know. We were told to come straight in. Now to those of you who have been classed as high risk. Let me tell you something, I was only classed as high risk due to bmi, everything else was fine. My consultant signed my off to low risk at 38 weeks as he said that he didnt see me as a risk at all. When I got to the hospital the midwives were having none of it. They apparently still classed me as high risk and pratically said no to me having my dream water birth. It was so close, the pool was a foot away and i was being told no. Now as you can imagine calm Lulu was now no longer calm... I was so glad that my hubby was there as he said the immortal words of abdicating womens choice - my wife is having her water birth! I could have swelled with pride if I wasnt so preoccupied. The midwife soon shut up and checked me over advising me that I was far enough along to stay in hospital. (I know that some people would rather not know but it set me a marker as to what to expect) She reluctantly started running my pool with water. However the after effects of the midwife stressing me out had started showing. My surges had now linked themselves into one and I had started losing my head. I had tensed up and was now feeling the surges without breathing through them. My hubby and my mum took hold of me and talked me through my relaxation techniques. I calmed enough to focus on my breathing but due to the surges merging into one it was very hard to get my head in the right place. It was only when i stepped into that birthing pool that everything changed. My body instantly relaxed. My mind calmed, I was focused. Focused so much so that I really started enjoying it. Enough so I started blowing bubbles in the water lol The intensity of the surges eased and they became regular again. After a while i could feel something quite low down. I checked myself abd i could feel my waters bulging. My midwife demanded to check me which was no mean feat I can tell you haha and in the next wave they popped! From then on my body took over, everything happened so quickly and within what seemed like a blink of an eye my baby boy was born. I would just like to say that it was like an out of body experiance. My body just got on with what it was supposed to do while i was trying to sort out my head at the enormity of the fact that i was giving birth to my baby. The midwife checked me again and told me that baby was literally just sitting there and that it was time. The overwelming urge to beardown was amazing and in this moment I had complete and utter control. I went with my body and did long focused pushes rather than just pushing willy nilly as I knew I had the possibility of causing myself injury (i had a previous episiotomy) Within seconds the head was out, and all I needed was one more surge and my baby would have been born. The next thing I heard was my baby cry. I couldnt believe it, I had done it! My baby was in my arms and i was so happy. My hypnobirth didnt go completely as planned but at the end when it mattered the most I was able to knuckle down and be completely focused. My baby was born at 12.46 18th January 7lb 4oz. I hope this maybe helps someone
