I just turned in refusal letters for Short Cycle Assessments for my two youngest children, 2nd and 4th grades. I was a little nervous because I really admire and respect their classroom teachers and didnt want to upset them. However, I cannot allow my children to be a part of this cycle of endless testing. I truly believe that the SCAs do not give the teacher any information that they do not already know from normal classroom testing, which I am all for. Here is what I gave to each teacher: After serious thought, my husband and I have decided that it is not in the best interest of our child to participate in any Short Cycle Assessments. We feel it is another unnecessary test to which our child is subjected. Therefore, we are exercising our parental right to refuse any and all SCAs for the remainder of the school year 2014-2015. We trust our childs teacher to evaluate her strengths and weaknesses without additional standardized tests. Thank you, Mika Newey
