I just uploaded a new video to YouTube of Amazing Grace played on the Native American flute. Please check it out! This is a version of Amazing Grace on Native American flute that I recorded for the CD, Honoring The Passages: Voices from Hospice Music Therapy & Beyond produced by Music Therapist Carolyn Koebel. The photography images are by mine, and many of them will soon be available on my Website to download in high resolution or to order as prints (sometime in January). Portions of this recording were made at Lyndale Lutheran Church I was once interviewing an Dakotah elder who was talking about healing songs. He said to me, White culture doesnt seem to have any healing songs... wait, I know of one, Amazing Grace. That was a jumping off point to a beautiful dialog and sharing of healing music from both cultures. Years later, when I Native American family couldnt agree on whether to have a Native American or Christian funeral, I used this song as a bridge piece to help combine the two spiritualities, and connect the people of both faiths. It was a beautiful moment that Ive always wanted to capture in a recording. I also had the privilege to perform this at an interfaith September 11th memorial where thousands of virtually every faith came together to mourn and heal together.
