I just want to share my story, because I want to know from you all - TopicsExpress

I just want to share my story, because I want to know from you all of youve had a similar experience and if Im being unreasonable. In 2012 I went to an after hours clinic because I wasnt doing well and was having some issues. After almost two hours the physician returns apologizing for the delay, and it took so long because my platelet levels were so low they couldnt be detected. I was sent home and told to go to the ER the next day if I still was having problems. It was a Saturday and I went to lunch with my brother, and halfway through the meal I told him I needed to go to the hospital (there was only one in town). I go to the hospital, Im bleeding and I feel so horrible. The ER doctor comes back with playlet count of 3. I got sent home!!! They gave me some prednisone and sent me home and told me to come back the next day. Maybe it was because I have cruddy student insurance, or maybe they just didnt care to use up a hospital bed. I get a print up of my test results and it says critical low and the reaction from the dr was like it was no big deal. I went to my oncologists office that Monday and the team there was quite concerned. I went though a whirlwind of tests and another bone marrow biopsy and finally got my ITP diagnosis. My oncologist/hematologist is a great guy and Im glad he was able to help me. But Im so angry at how the ER treated me and just dismissed me like I had a common cold. I was bleeding heavily (and sorry its gross but I had golf ball sized clots every 15 minutes for 4 days) and they just left me to make it through the night on my own. Of course my brother and his family were there for me, and I am grateful, and my mom flew over to take care of me (again super grateful), but what would have happened if I had lost even more platelets that day? My brother lived 40 minutes from town, with no emergency services in between. Has anyone else been sent home at such low levels? From everything Ive read once you hit below 10 things are pretty serious, and below 5 is really dangerous. Am I wrong to be so upset? Sure it happened in the past, I just dont want it to happen again...to anyone.
