I just want to share with this group how strong and resilient the SFT is. When Margarita was 5 yrs old she got a very aggressive ear infection. It went all the way to her brain. She could not walk. We carried her everywhere. She was having horrible seizures and the neurologist told us that she only had a couple of month unless they performed a surgery (no warranties) to try to get to her brain and clean the infection manually. The risk: she could die there or she could have some nerve damaged. They needed to open 2 incisions through her throat and work their way to her brain. They were unable to do it without damaging some nerves in her ear (balance) and right eye. She came our of the surgery alive! And she had a great recovery. The nerve damage left her with 3 permanent side effects. Her head is tilted to the right (people think is cute, look at the photo!) her right eye does not close completely and her right lip is weak (I always give her a massage after she eats to avoid any food from getting trapped between her lip and teeth). They are a strong breed because thats not all! After that surgery she had another 8 surgeries to remove from mass cell tumors to fatty tumors. She is 11 years old and STRONG. Now she has some problems with her kidneys but we are working on that. She is such a good dog and we will do anything to keep her healthy and comfortable. We love her so much. These dogs are tough! :)
