I just wanted to take a moment and communicate a DIFFERENT perspective on the issue of the UC tuition hikes, and you should be aware of the situation whether or not you are a college student, know one, or even live in CA. The 5% increase over the next 5 years might seem innocuous, but do the math and youll see just how damaging it is. So lets do the math. When the hike is fully effective, tuition will cost 27.7% more than today (which is $13,000 per year). Thatll be ~$17,000 per year which is an increase of $4,000 PER YEAR, x4 years = an EXTRA $16,000 for tuition alone (not counting if you stay longer than 4 years, or if you decide to take summer classes). This 5% hike is essentially costing students MORE THAN AN ENTIRE EXTRA YEARs worth of tuition today. An extra $16,000 is a BRAND NEW CAR. UC just decides this with the snap of their fingers - no questions, votes, or input from students. If this doesnt get your attention, then I dont know what will. Luckily, I wont have to deal with the tuition increase, but you, your siblings, and friends, probably will. So if you want to have the slightest chance of saving yourself $16,000 (i.e. your future car) Id suggest you head your smarty-pants ass to Wheeler Hall - Now. Its actually pretty fun over there. But you probably wont go, in which case, I wanted to personally congratulate you on an extra $16,000 of debt! Share this if you want, its my holiday gift to you! Oh, and how can I forget? Go BEARS!!!
