I just watched 3 straight episodes of George Lopezs new show Saint George and its not nearly as good as his old show was. Allow me to list where this show goes wrong: - His mother in the show is the exact same character as his mothers character in the old show, but a lot less clever and funny -Hes divorced and single, which could be used to create funny story lines but instead just makes things between he and his ex wife awkward. seriously why are they hanging out so much? -Why is his ex-wife white? Honestly, I wouldnt mind if they ignored it completely or made funny story lines out of it. Instead the show tries to force really tacky Thats why youre white or Mexicans always do this jokes. And as my good friend Collin MacConnell just proved, if its not funny its offensive. In episode 2 the Mother literally says I know how Mexican parties go its just guys sitting around smoking and talking about dropping out of high school. Really? REALLY? She constantly makes racist comments, that are really offensive and so does George Lopezs son. -Instead of George Lopezs son being mixed and having really good character development about trying to find an identity between two clashing cultures hes just a geeky kid with glasses and a sweater vest who has groan inducing lines of dialogue: Next time I ask to have a party, lets just not have one......lets move on -Danny Trejo and his son (The cop from dexter) are actually kinda funny, but theyre underutilized -George Lopezs natural comedy shines through sometimes. But these moments are few and far in between -The show has no consistency in tone. One second someone is having a grave discussion and the next the crappy laugh track is playing over a forced joke. -Lastly, no comedy stems from George Lopezs job. He became rich by making an energy drink, but for some reason hes teaching history. To conclude, the shows just not funny.
