I just watched Life of Pi on dvd...the struggle for territory between a boy an a tiger. It reminded me of two incidents in my life. Many years ago. The first one was in Nepal. I was staying in an abandoned buddhit monastery at Begnas Lake. It was on its shore, hidden in the jungle. I stood on that monastery long time. One morning i was exploring the jungle, and suddenly I saw a group of about ten monkeys, those macaques, big enough, with Sharp teeth and claws. They where sitting under the trees, about 100 mts from where I was. I did a stupid mistake. They noticed me, and instead of turning back and go home, i became fascinated by the beauty of them. And I stare at the monkey boss, straight in the eyes. Stupid me! Never ever stare at a monkey...they get angry! Actually they get scared and their instinct is to attack. So they got angry. They started to make uuuuh huhuhu and they walked first slowly to me, then , when I turned back and started tu run straight to the monastery, they started tu run after me. It was one of the scariest times of my life...I run and run, imagining myself being mauled to death. When they where like ten meters on my back, I stepped on a root and fell down. Oh no, this is the end, I thought. But then, in a fraction of second, i stood up, and faced them. They stopped. And with the heart in my mouth, I raised my arms like a monster, and screamed the most scariest sound a monkey ever heard. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah . And for my relief, all the monkeys ran away in all directions, and vanished into the jungle. I was shaking like a leaf, better said, like an epileptic. Such a terror. And didnt stop shaking for ten minutes more. Later, after half an hour, Nirmala, the villager who lived uphill, and who used to bring me fresh water every week ( I was staying on my own at the monastery) asked me in poor English : you make Aaaaaaaaaaah?. I replied Yes, monkeys attacked me. She looked than, very serious, and shook her head, surely thinking : how stupid !
