I just watched a documentary on Netflix called The Improv. Another show where they interview a bunch of disconnected celebrity comics who dont know shit about the stand-up business as it exists today. Jerry Seinfeld is the most disconnected and delusional of them all, You only see a comedian today break once every 13 years or so because they dont put in the work! Ya, because the game hasnt changed at all since you got your break has it Jerry... Seinfeld would be lost in the shuffle so quickly today its ridiculous. Hed never get up. How many twitter, fb, tumblr, instagram, youtube pages did you have to manage Jerry? How long had you been in the business before you had to worry about getting your first HD demo video? How much did you have to learn about aspect ratio and fps as a comic in the 80s? As a matter of fact, How many others were even calling themselves comics in 1986? How often did you have to self promote? How many times was Jerry passed over back when Hollywood was handing out sit-coms to comics like it was cap day at dodger stadium? And finally, How many miles did you put in on the road before they gave you that pilot? Youre not an authority of any sort within the stand-up business, youre the absolute luckiest comic alive! When your punch line is, Whats the deal with that? that means you havent even written the bit yet! All youve got is the premise? You have all this money, the most watched show in tv history, and youre not even funny. Whats the deal with that? The deal is that when NBC finally got to you at the bottom of the pile, you didnt know what the hell to do. So you went running to the experienced old timer comic in your clique Larry David, who saved your ass! Why? Because you didnt put in the work!!! I dont typically like to call out another comic for anything on fb. But Im sure he can handle a little criticism from some unknown who doesnt put in the work, yet has a gig almost every single weekend for over 17 years now. Its by no means the first time he has taken a cheap shot at those to follow him. Dont be telling the general public we dont work, they already think that enough on their own. Im pissed for myself and many others I see putting in the work. You know who I dont see? But if, and most likely when, I do see Mr Seinfeld, you can bet your life I will tell him right to his face that his not putting in the work theory is off base and out of line.
