I just went through Albert R. Stones photos from the 1920-1930 era of Charlotte Beach. Not only are the photos amazing, but the annotations by the RMSC capture what I believe to be were Stones purpose in taking them - to show us all for posterity what was at the beach before it was what we know it to be today. He was truly a great photo-journalist Im again going to post all 20 pics one at a time so you might enjoy them in large format with the narrative clearly attached. Yesterday, I went to a wedding at which the ceremony was held on the beach and the reception in the Roger Robach Community Center and walked on the grounds where all this history took place. To think it might soon be over-shadowed by 3 large buildings makes me wonder what the outcry would be if those same building were proposed at the Corn Hill Landing on the Genesee River. Heres the first of the Stone pix - enjoy and contemplate the comments that goes with them: This is a close up of Robert Pernell, an African-American sand artist. He has been entertaining crowds at Charlotte Beach with his huge sand sculptures. Printed in Rochester Herald, August 6, 1922.
