I just wrote a boat like this into book 5. The characters were attacked by an untreated schizophrenic who thought Elana was a witch (Hes seen her land sailer which has a black sail, he thinks her last name is Black and he knows her name, Elana, comes from Elaine which means Shining light. She is tall, has long, black hair and dark eyes so he puts her name together as Shining Black Light). His voices are screaming at him, day and night, that he has to kill her. If he kills Jed, he thinks he will also kill her but he ends up capturing Jeds brother, Jack. Thats the last conscious memory he has before Elana knocks him unconscious with a small-game-tipped arrow from a compound bow (ouch). Once the characters get him medicated again and also secure enough medication to take care of him for the rest of his life, they needed to sail him and his draft horse to an offshore island so that he could not get back to the mainland and possibly terrorize Elana again. Long story short? (too late!) Now I want one of these sailboats! Currently the boat is a Daima which is closer to 150 feet long.
