I just wrote this letter to Cracker Barrels Facebook wall as well as their website. Break a policy, ok, get written up, even docked a day or two of pay...but fired over a corn muffin and a homeless American? Heres my letter: Just wanted to say that my entire family eats at Cracker Barrel multiple times per year including thanksgiving. Your food, prices, and staff are always friendly and you run a great operation. However with the recent firing of Joe Koblenzer because of giving away corn muffins to a homeless man whos an American is a little too far reaching. I understand that Joe was warned and violated a policy that in my opinion needs to be revamped anyway, but honestly over a muffin? Maybe you could have docked his pay, made him payback restitution over inexpensive flour that would have gone home with employees or the trash if leftover. Even giving him a few days off without pay might have curbed his giving behavior. But fired over this? Way too extreme and this man is elderly and seems like a GREAT manager. Policy breaker? Sure. Thief? No way! I hope in the near future we hear of a resolve concerning Joe and maybe some new policies that will help the needy on local levels either giving away food or a small percentage of sales going to help the homeless in the local areas. If not this story will only grow and youll see your sales drop because patrons who visit your stores throughout the years will simply stop. Is this worth it? Only you can answer this question but reassure when politics override people, then youll lose respect. Be careful and please make wise, caring decisions especially concerning Joe.
