I kind of want to talk about blackface in cosplay since its been such an issue lately. Disregarding entirely previous cases of blackface that were used disrespectfully, what do you guys think about changing your skin tone or making yourself appear like a member of another race. In theory, most anime cosplay is used to turn yourself into a character of Asian origin, although most anime characters appear nationality indistinctive. I personally have lightened my skin to give myself the appearance of a redhead and I have heavily made up my face to change my features to look like a different person, specifically because I admired a character and I drive for 100% screen accuracy in all my costumes. Why then is it disrespectful to darken my skin tone if I considered playing an olive skinned person, or a black skinned person. Im afraid I dont understand.
