I knew Gore Vidal and due to his prodigious talents came to think of him as a gadfly, intellectual provocateur and occasional conspiratorialist, but not primarily as a major novelist. After watching the wonderful doc Gore Vidal the United States of Amnesia on Netflix I decided to read Burr, which was described as he greatest novel. What a treat! Its hard to imagine an author and subject better suited. All the pleasure of history and fiction under the guidance of a man born to the politics and chicanery of Virginia politics. The perfect summer read for 2014!
