I know COST is always a concern as people automatically assume that sunscreen in every classroom will be expensive. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!! If 15 children had to contribute R100 each for the WHOLE YEAR ..... that class will have a serviced sunscreen dispenser in their classroom every day as well as all the amazing competitions, incentives, educational dvd, roadshow etc etc etc...... that comes with the program. Every classroom is wonderful for the littlies i.e.. babies - Gr 3 as it is important that someone reminds them to do and this very quickly instills in them the habit of applying sunscreen everyday no matter what (even on cloudy days ). Like brushing your teeth, and putting on a seatbelt. So too should it be as important a life skill to put on sunscreen. From Gr 4 upwards, it becomes a little more difficult as we have missed the habit bus for many of them and ....they obviously know better BUT put dispensers in hotspots around the school (like pool, sides of field, grade quads etc) and get coaches to get them to apply before sport. No 10 year old oke will dig in his bag for cream unless his mates are all doing it or his rugby coach has given the order. DONE !!!! The facts are scary people....and sunscreen is proven to make a difference in the chance of one day developing melanoma. Why take a chance ????
