I know Ive posted this video before, but recently Ive been reminiscing with some old friends about the days in Barre way back when in the 60s to mid-70s and the old pool hall (and later pool hall and bar) owned by a good friend by the name of Leon Saunders. Lucky Leon is long gone, but it got me to thinking about what a great pool player he was, as well as what a good pool teacher he was to many of us back then. Sadly, there are no videos of Leon shooting pool, but the true stories I could tell you about Leons abilities with a cue stick would make your jaw drop. Now Leon wasnt a trick shot artist like the fellow in this video. To Leon trick shots were BS. He took pool very seriously, and considered the only real pool game to be straight pool - where luck has virtually no role in the game. Which is why he respected Willie Masconi but didnt much care for Minnesota Fats (real name Rudolf Wanderone). But, what this trick shot video DOES show is some very fine masse work by Mr. Florian Kohler, aka Venom. And a well-played masse shot can save your ass when your positioning goes askew in straight pool. NOW REMEMBER... when viewing this video a REAL pool player will notice the shots being made and if asked about the girl in the video will either say What girl or Shes gonna ruin the cloth on the table!.
