I know Jenny Butler hates Peter Liddles voice, but I maintain that Dry the Rivers first album was by far the best record i have heard in the last 5 years (like hearing Grace or OK Computer for the first time), and now their second album has finally been released. Verdict. Its not as good as their first album... ..But its still a more glorious record than 99% of albums released in the last few years. A bit more rock, a bit more anthemic. A more confident swagger is on display from the band, but its sacrificed some of that heartbreaking fragility from Shallow Bed. And Liddles falsetto is still reminiscent of Jeff Buckley at his best (Live at Sin-e). The title track, Hidden Hand, and Everlasting Light are stand out songs, and Vessel is sublime. Turn out the lights and bring out your special occasion headphones.
