I know its not 1980s, but its still a story of huge local interest but This year sees the 100th anniversary of WW1 starting & i wondered how many of you out there realise that Lowestoft had its own local hero, who was awarded the Naval Version of the countrys highest award for Gallantry, the Victoria Cross. His name was Thomas Crisp & he was skipper of an armed smack who took on an Enemy U-Boat, off the Norfolk Coast in September 1915. Unfortunately his Vessel, the Nelson was sunk but crisp refused to leave the vessel. He was Post-humously awarded the VC in October 1917.Tom Crisp Way in the town is named after him you can read more about his amazing story here.....
