I know many people read my posts, and some respond while others dont. Its fine. I also hear from people at work and in general saying how stressed I sound. In truth its not stress, except for getting things done. I remember TC 2 with fond memories. It was only 750 people, but had a heart and soul to it I could relate to. Basically it was manageable. People somehow confuse being popular with the size of a convention. That is a myth. TC is popular I believe because of what we do and HOW we do it. Name one Steampunk convention that sells out 2-3 months early and has never released a guest list. TC is not just any convention, its special and deserves to be treated as such. Its my child, my creation and at times I feel it has gotten to big. I understand that people truly want to come and see it, be part of it and experience what it is we do. I am also aware that it takes more people and much more money to pull it off- not to mention all the weekends I dont do anything else but work on the con. Now that I have a good size family- 3 grandkids- 4 nieces and and house to be built...I consider that my big kid. I need to make things easier, simpler and less confusing. Starting next year TeslaCon will be smaller. 1200 total tickets-that includes the dealers. By TC7 I might push it to only 1000. Basically I want to take back the feeling I had with TC 2. It doesnt matter the amount of people or help we get, it is something I wish to be done. Success is not based I know many of you reading this will say but I wanted to go-I have never had a chance...you will still have a chance. Tickets will be on sale at the con this year and then starting Jan. 1st. 2015 on the site thru Event-brite. Just dont wait! I mean it- every year people wait and then complain when we sell out. Next year we will be having guests and they are from England! Plus a few other BIG surprises. I take great pride in what I do- its NOT always perfect and I never it claim it to be, but we do what we can with the time and money allotted. Next year will be our first foray into the American theme, and what I have planned is going to be shocking at minimum. New types of story telling- opening ceremonies and all. More play like panels with interaction. I can only do this though with your support and belief in the con. I feel one thing that has changed are the attendees. I feel some attend because its here, not because they enjoy the immersion, or the experience. I see that on Facebook, and its disheartening. Then we are not the right convention for you. TeslaCon is above all a story- an adventure in 3D that takes place over 3 days. Aaron my sound Designer has invited Bryan and myself to Disney this next year- solely for the purpose of recharging and getting ideas. It is something I wish to do- to feel that energy again and see what we can create, and make new. There are so many ideas I have planned over the next few years with so many interesting ways to tell the stories. In the end though its up to you- your support and belief in this convention is what fuels and drives it. Without the fans we are nothing more than actors in an empty auditorium. I will be talking more about our future plans on Friday at opening ceremonies, and will let you see some of the vision then. My hope is to make the future just as good or better than the others...all in the land of Steam and dreams. Lord Hastings Robert Bobbins III Eric Larson VAH “Success is simple.
