I know that I am spoilt all science nerd. I know that most people - TopicsExpress

I know that I am spoilt all science nerd. I know that most people do not particularly care what their government does or how it operates so long as their taxes arent too high and things seem to be generally ticking along. Fine. But what strikes me about this whole Senate Scandal debacle most powerfully is this...What the frack is a PMO and why is it running the country? There is no PMO in the Canadian constitution. The Prime Minister is called that for a reason. He is the primary minister among many ministers who are individually supposed to be representing us, their constituents. Citizen representatives of citizens. The Senate is supposed to be comprised of citizens, too. Allegedly, Canadians who have proved themselves wise and thoughtful and useful to the country. They are *NOT* supposed to be following orders from anybody, let alone from some extra-constitutional body called the PMO. Witness Senator Hugh Segal. A long time back room Conservative party member, he, at least seems to understand that his duty is to the Canadian people, first and foremost. Stephen Harper is not the king of Canada, nor is he President of Canada. He is not supposed to be running a goon squad that threatens senators (even when they are money-grubbing jerks). His job is to be Prime Minister. He is supposed to coordinate the government, not rule us with an iron fist and an Orwellian propaganda handbook. For the record, this PMO crap started with Trudeau and has been getting further and further out of hand through each successive government: conservative and liberal. Enough is enough. Either we take parliamentary democracy seriously and bring things back in line, or we accept that we are electing one-person dictatorships and rewrite our constitution thusly.
