I know that a great many people who follow my feeds are either cancer survivors or support cancer charities. Most people, however, have no idea where the money raised by these organizations actually goes. Chris Wark is a cancer survivor and has pledged not to pledge, and with pretty good reasons. Heres his take on why you might want to reconsider the next run for a cure for something. Ive done stories and columns on these issues before and his explanation about how little money actually goes to research is accurate, as is his notation about the exorbitant cash paid out in executive and administrative salaries. Its actually pretty sickening. I have similar issues with Alzheimers and Parkinsons charities who spend millions on executive salaries and very little on research funding.
