I know this is a long post but please read to the end, Thanks............I had someone say to me, I want to do what you do and stay home, craft and run an online store to make lots of money... Ok my first thought was to laugh out loud but then I thought I would give her the really run down on having an online store...... Lets say I want to put a $10.00 (retail price) item in my store for you. First I order it from my supplier and if Im luck I can get it for half price $5.00... Now add the shipping cost from the supplier to me (add fee) then I add it to my store (another fee) You buy it and Paypal takes a Fee. I buy supplies to ship it to you, boxes, tissue paper, shipping labels, business cards, paper for invoices (and I wont count in the freebies I throw in your package) and add the fee to use Stamps. com (which is suppose to be cheaper than the post office and it would be if there werent a monthly fee to have it) and then the gas to run it to the post office 8 miles away....... So $10.00 minus the fees = my profit of $2.68 ...... now let say, nobody wants to buy it for full retail so in order to compete with other online stores I put it on sale 15% off.. $10 - 15% = $8.50.. now my profit is $1.18 hummm not to even enough to buy a coffee lol. And you know me I give out freebies and giveaways all the time. You ask then why do I do it? I like my crafty friends. I like to interact with people. I like to give out deals when I can. I had hoped to make money at this Online Store business but I cant put out the money to offer tons of items at below retail prices or run Free shipping offers. What I do try to do is offer friendly quick service along with ideas for using the products.......
